This elegant model M offers a renowned Steinway sound in a beautifully proportioned grand. The model M is known for its ability to deliver warmth, clarity and expressive depth within a relatively compact footprint. The piano produces a rich, rounded tone with excellent balance across the keyboard, supported by a responsive and finely regulated action that allows for nuanced control and confident dynamic expression.

At 5′ 7″ (170 cm) in length, the Model M Medium Grand piano’s rich tone, responsive action and manageable size makes it perfect for conservatories, and many homes as well.

The first Steinway & Sons Model M Grand Pianos built in 1911 measured 5’6″ in length. By 1917 the length was increased to what it is today, 5’7″. With a scale designed by famed piano engineer Henry Ziegler, these pianos were first manufactured in New York. It wasn’t until 1926 that production of this model began at the Steinway Factory in Hamburg, Germany. Now dubbed a ‘Studio Grand’ by Steinway & Sons, these medium-sized, well-rounded instruments are the epitome of Baby Grand piano design.

Designed with a scale based on the larger Model O, the Model M was crafted to provide a slightly smaller and easier to manage alternative to other Steinway Baby Grands. The Model M is still being manufactured today and is a popular staple of both the New York and Hamburg Steinway piano lineups. Steinway Model M Grands are very popular in home settings and are also commonly found in institutional and other professional uses. The 5’7″ Model M is definitely not a piano to underestimate, with a power and range of tone coupled with a quick responsiveness that is sure to please.
